Our Top 7 Airbnb Experiences

We almost exclusively use Airbnb when we travel and we've stayed in some amazing places all over the world! When I asked Aaron on our walk this morning what his top 5 were, we couldn't narrow it down. Here are our Top 7 Airbnb Experiences with photos from and links to their listings:

We traveled to Bali on our honeymoon 4.5 years ago and we still talk about this location. The owner is an architect who gave attention to every detail. In the home and on the grounds. The pictures don't do it justice. One of my favorite memories was spending the evening on our back deck, having dinner and looking over the ocean. It's in a more remote location of Bali, but it lined up with some of the activities we were interested in doing. We did utilize a driver when we stayed here after an unfortunate accident involving me throwing myself off the back of Aaron's scooter. My rash attempt at preventing us from going off the side of a cliff. Good times.

In the heart of Bali, overlooking a rice paddy field, this was our first destination as a married couple. In the middle of the jungle, just outside of Ubud this heavenly oasis was everything. An underrated feature: a jungle symphony made up of bugs, birds and monkeys. Delightful. We hung out in the infinity pool, had massages and were told not to feed the monkeys because they can get a little aggressive. Our monkey encounter came the next day at the monkey temple. More on that later.

Overlooking the rolling hills, far away from literally everything, I lived out my childhood dream of staying in a castle. When we saw this Airbnb, we knew we needed to go off the beaten path just to stay here for a night. It's under renovation and we had access to three rooms, a bathroom and a dining area. We woke up to a snowy flurry surrounding our castle on a hill. Princess vibes for sure.

Remote and worth it

This Airbnb was 15 minutes outside of Portree. A more remote location, but so peaceful. If you're looking for a place to stay in the Isle of Skye, look no further than this dreamy Airbnb. This was our final stay in the U.K. before heading off to Amsterdam and we soaked it in by moving a little slower, having a donut sampling party, and searching for the Northern lights. The sky was so clear and the air was so crisp. We didn't see the lights but we had a great time trying.

If you're a Harry Potter fan, you will feel like you've stepped into Hogwarts. This Airbnb was magical to say the least and the host was especially helpful when we accidentally separated from our group who had the house key. It's in close proximity to the Warner Bros studios and worked well for our group of 6. At the time of our visit it was a brand new Airbnb so I'm sure it's picked up in popularity and will need to be booked a ways out. Aaron took the Harry Potter house quiz and was unhappy with his result of Ravenclaw so he took it again. Such a Ravenclaw thing to do. The results from round two? Ravenclaw.

If I could go back to any Airbnb we've stayed at, it would be this one. Just outside of Kruger National Park, this game reserve allowed us to have some close up and personal encounters with wildlife. We were greeted in the morning by a line up of warthogs waiting for their breakfast. We bought some game feed at the market and had a great time feeding the warthogs, kudu, wildebeest, and my favorite, the zebras. 20 weeks pregnant feeding zebras. So happy. The listing shows a few pictures of animal visitors.

About a 5 minute walk from the penguins at Boulder's Beach, this was the perfect way to wrap up our trip to South Africa. We were sad to leave Kruger, but spending time in this small beach town made up for it. We didn't realize this, but in South Africa they have something called load-shedding which involves being hit with a power outage for a few hours. This happened at our Airbnb and at a restaurant. As a former waitress, a midshift power outage sounds like a nightmare but we loved having our dinner in candlelight.
